Yalku Lagoon
Location: In North Akumal, just north west of Half Moon Bay
Yalku Lagoon is one of the most popular destinations in Akumal. This Caribbean inlet is filled with underwater sea life; every nook has something new and colorful to offer. It is like snorkeling/diving in an aquarium, great for small kids, especially if the surf is up on the bays.
There is a small entrance fee to the Lagoon (as of this writing it is 150 pesos), unless you rent a lagoon-front property. There is a parking lot, paths with a few stairways for entering the water and bathrooms. Mixture of spring fed fresh water mixed with ocean salt water. Sturdy footwear and towels are a nice thing to have here, as there is not a beach entrance, just limestone terraces. There also is a small cafe style restaurant offering burgers, tacos and cold beverages. Snorkel equipment available for rental. Left past the arch at the entrance to Akumal.
Lol Ha Cultural Program
Location: On Akumal Bay
The fine dining restaurant of Lol Ha offers Mexican Folkloric Dancing Shows. See and hear the beautiful dancing, costumes, music and footsteps of these talented dancers.
Check with the restaurant (Phone: (52) 984-875-9014) for the current schedule, as this program is only offered a few times a week. Lol Ha is located on the beach at Akumal Bay, to the right of the arch. Also enjoy their beautiful veranda with a view of the ocean and exceptional cuisine.
Half Moon Bay
Location: In North Akumal
Half Moon Bay is a wonderful place to snorkel with the turtles, rays, tropical fish and coral stags. Or, to start your day right, wake up early for a stunning sunrise. There are a few local restaurants on this beach where you can dig your feet in the sand. Mixture of fine sand changing to rocks at the waters edge. Footwear recommended for water entry. Dive shop with snorkel equipment for rental. Left past the arch at the entrance to Akumal.
Akumal Bay
Location: Cental Akumal
Akumal Bay is a fantastic beach for swimming and snorkeling. Central to many restaurants, gift shops, galleries, marketplaces, kids club, laundry, library, police, restrooms, spa, ice cream, stage area, and more! 2 full service dive shops: Scuba courses, daily reef diving, fishing. Kayaks available for rental. Sailing: Kantaris catamaran at Akumal Dive Shop. Fine sand beach with sandy entrance at waters edge. Lol-ha restaurant and beach bar with pizza. Shoes not required in most areas. Right past the arch at the entrance to Akumal.
Kids Club
SPECIAL NOTICE: The kid's club will be closed after April 30th. We will have a playground for our guest's children but no adult supervision.
Akumal Bay is home to a wonderful Kid's Club Program. Most days will have fun, interesting activities, organized and run by qualified staff.
There are morning (9am - 2pm) activities tailored for children between the ages of 2 and 7, which can include snacks, crafts, beach & water activities, playtime, theme parties, field trips within Akumal and introduction to local customs and culture. These are fun as well as educational and the little ones really enjoy it.
The evening activities (6:30pm - 9pm) are geared for children of any age. Supervised dinner in the Pizzeria (cost of the meal is extra), board games, and movies in the children's activity center.
The cost is a reasonable hourly charge, and there are customized pre-pay packages offering better values. Mid day supervision can be arranged in advance for an hourly rate.
MORNINGS: Age: Infant to 10 year olds. From 9 AM to 2 PM $6.00/Child/Hr. Crafts, beach activities, field trips within Akumal and an introduction to local customs and culture.
AFTERNOONS: On request (Not included in pre-paid program)
EVENINGS: All ages. From 6 to 9 PM $6.00/Child/Hr. Supervised dinner in Pizzeria (cost of meal not included), board games and movies in children's activity center next to Lol-ha Snack Bar.
While reservations are not required, prepaying is recommended. This helps with the activity planning and staffing requirements. It also guarantees full use of the Kid's Club during our morning and evening sessions for a discounted rate.
SPECIAL PRE-PAID PROGRAM: For those wanting to take advantage of unlimited use of the Kid's Club, you may pre-pay for the service. Prepay charge is $25 / Day / Child and allows the child full use of the Kid's Club during the morning and evening hours. (Lunch and dinner not included)
You can find the Kid's Club on the main beach of Akumal Bay, just behind the Lol-Ha Beach Bar. It is a fun, safe and terrific place to have your children watched. It offers the opportunity to do adult activities, or have an intimate meal alone. (And you might find the kids will want to spend their entire vacation here!)
The local Mayans love children. Often it is possible to arrange baby sitting in your own accommodation, by either contacting the Kid's Club in advance, or your property caretaker.
