Puerto Aventuras
In 1984, Roman Riviera Torres had a vision; slowly build a small community around 600 acres of sub-tropical jungle, white sand beaches and Caribbean blue water. And so, Puerto Aventuras was born. With the only full service marina between Cancun and Belize, Puerto Aventuras serves as a home to hundreds of permanent residents as well as travelers from the far reaches of the globe. The commercial district with its numerous fine restaurants and locally owned boutique retail stores makes dining and shopping a comfortable experience without the “hawkers” of larger and busier Cancun. The dolphins in the Marina Square will capture your hearts and the kids will surely want to swim with them. General services such as grocery, beer and wine and medical, which by the way are as good as the states, are all close at hand, should you wish to utilize them.
Located between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum, Puerto Aventuras is perfectly situated for day trips to Merida, Coba, Cozumel or other local attractions. A 9 hole golf course, soon to be 18, (under construction), is one of the many activities offered along with diving (open water and Cenote), snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking, tennis, deep-sea fishing and bicycle tours. If your mission is to just chill out, then reading, snoozing and swimming at the 1.5 mile long peaceful beach is always and option.

Playa del Carmen
If one were to think of a small European town located in the Mexican Caribbean, Playa Del Carmen would come to mind. Located a bit closer to Cancun, yet miles away, Playa (as it is affectionately known) is quite a popular destination for those seeking a cosmopolitan town that is tranquil and brushed with Mayan culture. It is a veritable “melting pot” of European, American and Canadian residents/travelers along with Mayan/Spanish inhabitants. This combination makes for excellent dining, both fine and casual. A wide variety of hip, boutique hotels and multinational shops and nightclubs makes Playa have something to offer for everyone.
The main street, Quinta Avenida, or 5th Avenue, is a pedestrian walkway that is ever evolving and a vibrant part of the town. As is Puerto Aventuras, Plays offers a great base camp for the day trips we mentioned earlier as well as boasting an aviary, a stunning 18 hole golf course, Cenotes, Mayan ruins, incredible beaches, deep-sea fishing and the list goes on. The Cozumel ferry is also located a two blocks east of town and it is always a fun day trip to an incredibly beautiful island.
Playa never disappoints, in fact, we here at Sol Maya see a very high rate of return from previous travelers to the area. It is truly a special place. Let Sol Maya help you get there…

Akumal (Place of the Turtles)
Akumal is located about forty-five minutes south of Playa Del Carmen and twenty minutes south of Puerto Aventuras. It is divided into sub areas of Akumal, Akumal Bay, Aventuras Akumal, and South Akumal. This area was settled and developed by Don Pablo Bush and home to some of the prettiest beaches and best diving in the Yucatan Peninsula. The barrier reef that protects Akumal keeps the waters calm and gorgeous, making it a perfect vacation spot for families and is particularly safe for children.
Activities are limitless and include swimming, diving, snorkeling, wind surfing, sailing, sunbathing, and much more. As with other coastal towns in the Yucatan, Akumal is situated perfectly for day trips to Mayan ruins and Cenotes, as well as deep sea fishing from the marina at Puerto Aventuras. Golf and tennis courts are available there as well. A number of beach bars dish up great food, cold beverages and serve as a spot to meet other visitors and locals. There is a small commercial center with two small grocery stores, boutiques, gift and dive shops.
Akumal/Akumal Bay - This area has a public beach and is particularly pretty. You will find restaurants for every taste and budget, options for all water activities, day care, money exchange and transportation. Akumal is the main entrance to Half moon Bay and Yalku lagoon.
Aventuras Akumal - Aventuras Akumal is home to a hotel, villas, and condos. A dive shop and rooftop bar are located in the southern end next to a semi-private beach with good snorkeling. The hotels amenities are available to guests for an extra charge.
Half Moon Bay - Located on the northern end of Akumal, it is within walking distance of Akumal Bay and Yalku Lagoon, which is super kid friendly for snorkeling as it is extremely protected. The sunrises here are unrivaled; the bay offers great snorkeling for adults and tropical onshore breezes will lull you into relaxation. There are more restaurants here as well as money exchange.
South Akumal - A private gated community with lush garden style beaches, villas and condos. Great snorkeling, but no restaurants or public access.
Sol Maya offers a number of properties in the area in all price ranges. If you are not finding what you are seeking or have in depth questions about accommodations and location, please Email us and we will be more than happy to assist you.
